The town of Mõisaküla is situated in the south-eastern corner of the Viljandi County close to the Latvian border. The distance from Viljandi is 49 km, from Pärnu 63 kilometers and its population was 899 as of January 1, 2013. Mõisaküla’s year of birth is considered to be 1895 when a railway station on the Pärnu-Valga railway line was then being built. In 1938 Mõisaküla was granted town rights. The most famous resident of Mõisaküla is Arnold Luhaäär, who won a silver medal at the Amsterdam Olympic Games in 1928 and a bronze medal at the Berlin Olympic Games in heavyweight weightlifting. Mõisaküla has a museum, a library, a community centre, a kindergarten, a school, a youth centre and a retirement home. Sights of the town include four houses of worship, houses of unique architecture and beautiful private gardens.
