This year is a milestone in the history of the Hellenic Army Academy, which was founded 190 years ago when the first Governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, signed the order to set up an officer cadet school in Nafplion.
One of Kapodistrias’s primary goals was to establish a military school to produce a core of educated and capable officers who would on the one hand staff the army that was being formed, and on the other hand support the rebirth of the nation.
The Hellenic Army Academy: 190 years of glory and dedication. It is an institution in which the history of the nation, its existence, its hopes and its struggles are all invested.
Present at every national challenge, its actions in general far exceed what is ordinarily expected of a military school. Moreover, it has produced leaders who have distinguished themselves not only on the battlefield but also in the political, social and scientific life of the country, making a lasting impression on the history of Greece.
